I Love You Daddy

The smoke cleared as X 24 fell to the ground in a bloody heap, and the wound was large in his head thanks to the adamantium bullet that Laura had just fired into his skull. She ran to Logan's aid, feeling her tears sting her eyes, as she slashed her claws at the tree trunk trying to break him free from the pain.

Once she did, Logan slid down from the base of the tree trunk that he had been impaled with. He let out a large groan of pain, before gently resting his body against the base of the trunk. Laura's focus was on the large piece of wood sticking out of Logan, unsure if she should even try to remove it or not, she just watched as Logan withered in pain, as his healing factors were beginning to fail him more now.

He knew that the chances of him making it out of this were probably zero, but at this point he didn't care, all he wanted was to protect the children. He recalled his last moment with Charles, the day before he was slaughtered by X 24.

'You should take a moment, feel it, you still have time. This is what life looks like, people love each other'.


Laura's whole body seemed cold as ice, as every part of her shook from side to side. She couldn't remember the last time she had felt the stinging pain of sadness that left her feeling this cold before. But that was because she realized that up until now, no other sadness had been greater that what she was seeing before her eyes now.

"Daddy..." her small voice wailed, taking Logan's larger hand inside her smaller one, trying to find a way to comfort him now before the pain took him completely over.

Logan was never much good at being with other people, and children were never an exception with him either, but this was his daughter. This little girl who the government branded as "X-23" was his daughter.

His flesh and blood. He knew that he had to offer her some comfort. He owed her that much. After all, this was the first time since they had known each other that she had called him daddy.

He gently told her to help the other kids get to the border, but she began to refuse insisting that she could not leave him.

But he assured her that she had to be brave, and he told her that he knew she could survive just fine on her own.

Laura knew Logan was not very good with words, but she knew that this would be his best way of saying "I love you my little girl".

"Don't be what they made you" he instructed her gently. She nodded in understanding. He wanted her to live life as Laura the girl, and not X-23  the weapon.

"So this is what it feels like" he murmured quietly to himself, as a small smile formed on his tired blood stained lips.

'Charles was right, this is what it feels like... to love, and be loved back' he thought happily to himself.

The stinging and sticky feeling of his bloody wounds was starting to disappear, as light began filling his eyes. A beautiful strong light, with a silhouette going over Laura's face, just before there was utter darkness, and he felt his breath leave his body.

They had no tombstone to give him, so the children placed a large cross next to his now buried body, which was covered in stones.

But Laura had an idea of her own, as the other children began to walk away and head toward the border. She stayed behind, and gently placed the cross on it's side which now showed an "X" instead.

Logan's family crest. His only known family the X Men. The symbol of Charles who loved him like a son, and the symbol of Laura his daughter, who loved him with all her heart.
